Day 8- A Visit to the Old City (Quebec)

We woke up this morning with a plan to spend the day in the old city. We ate some breakfast in the hotel room, got ready, packed our water and other stuff, and headed out the door.

We walked about two miles to one of the entrances to the old city. Since it was Saturday it was extremely busy.

It had a very big European vibe. I loved it. The buildings were very old, but looked amazing. The view of the old city was stunning. Some places did not allow cars, so it was just a lot of people enjoying their day walking around the old city of Quebec. We walked around going in and out of shops. Then we stopped at a place, an Irish place, to eat lunch.

After lunch we walked up to a beautiful hotel stopping to watch a street performer do some great tricks.

Then we stopped at the most beautiful and pretty expensive hotel. We walked through the lobby admiring the beautiful elegance of it.

Old Quebec is like a step back in time and a flight across the Atlantic. It is so European, it is hard to believe you haven’t left the soil of North America. I was charmed immediately upon entering the gate of the old city, but I absolutely adored the Lower Town or better known as Basse Ville.

After exploring Upper Town and the Hotel Frontenac, we hopped aboard the Funicular and rode to the Lower Town. What is a funicular? A cable traction car used for movement on steep inclined slopes.

The cobblestone streets are narrow. The buildings are old (and some of which are worn) with different colored doors. Each structure is filled with quaint restaurants, artist shops, and souvenir options.

A delightful park set against the natural rock wall of Upper Town appeared between two restaurants. The kids relaxed on a swing bench and Shane and I chilled on the red Adirondack chairs with a glass of white wine. The location was a great place to people watch and to soak in the environment to make that made it feel like we’d skipped across the ocean.
