Day 11 – Monhegan Island Maine

  • Monhegan island is a MUST. This island is very peaceful. Only 65 yearlong residents and the school only held four kids this past year. The hiking trails are incredible. Lots of cool scenery and places to explore. in order to get out the we took a ferry boat to the island. An hour and a half boat ride.
  • We hiked for about two hours, going around the south side of the mountain. It was beautiful. The island is very small, but has about 17 miles of hiking trails. We took the “Burnt Trail” first then ended up on “Lobster Cove Road”. A gorgeous hike, cool stops, and very exciting experiences.

In the trails, there are stops you can make. Our first stop was: Burnt Head.

Beautiful view of the cliffs from here. We ate a snack on this ledge before continuing our adventure. Its a great picnic spot 🧺.

Our next stop on our hiking trail was Gull Rock: a huge rock that looks out at the sea.

We climbed up the rock (a pretty intense climb) and looked out over the sea and took some pictures. You could see a few really small island/rock type things in the ocean.

Our second to last stop was the Ship Wreck.

Our final stop was at a small little brewery where I got something to eat. Some really good food. We stopped at the only swimming area on the island and Lily, Daddy, and Jonah went swimming.

We headed back to the boat to do a tour-like thing to learn more about the cliffs of the island.

We did not get to hike the entire island, but what we did get to was incredible!
