Montreal hosts the world’s largest jazz festival and while we did not plan our vacation around trying to attend it I was extremely excited to find the jazz festival events kicked off today. I tracked down a show at the Upstairs jazz club, a 5-minute walk from our hotel. Gina and I ditched the kids in the hotel room went to see if we could get in.

Gina and I were squeezed in and seated at a table right up front where we had a great view of the Laura Anglade Quintet, a young and talented jazz band whose front woman sang in the skat style of jazz a la Ella Fitzgerald.

What a wonderful way to end a day in this energetic and uber-cultural city.

Experiencing live jazz in Montreal will be a lasting highlight of our trip for me.
