2019 Summer Vacation – Day 1

WICKED SMAHT

Off on another Smithie adventure.

We left Tampa around lunchtime on a Delta flight bound for Boston. I knew the trip was going to be wonderful when Lily kindly lent me her earbuds (because I’d lent my own to Julia) to watch Aquaman. Nothing makes a flight go faster than a little bit of Jason Momoa. 😜

As we approached the city, I noticed islands popping up in the Atlantic. Living in Florida, you sometimes forget that all geography isn’t flat. Beautiful islands of all shapes and sizes led us to the harbah!

As we lowered, this lighthouse stood tall and proud among several large rocks posing as land. It was quite the sight and the welcome.

So our journey started in Boston but more technically Cambridge. We stayed at the Marriott just a short walk to two prestigious American universities- MIT and Harvard. We traversed toward Harvard Square in search of dinner, a couple of local beeahs, and whether standing on the ground where so much brilliance has occurred can simply be absorbed. πŸ€”

First stop was Legal Seafood – a very well know seafood market started in 1950 by George Berkowitz that has since morphed into a restaurant and quite the seafood experience. Jonah ate his first booger, I mean oystah (they look like boogers to me🀣) Though initially unsure, he seemed to like it.

Along the way, we hit up a used book store – of course – Rodney’s Bookstore on Main. No trip is ever complete without at least one used bookstore stop. Once we hit campus, we walked the Ivy Yard, a dormitory section near Widener Library. Brick buildings, some very old and some new, lined the pathways as students waddled around for dorm tours. The grounds are a vibrant green with lush trees shading the space between the buildings. The campus is quite magnificent.

(Absorbing some smahts)

After wandering around and stopping at Lizzys for ice cream and sorbet, we hitched a ride on the T back to our hotel.

The first day of vacation was GREAT!!! We visited a few places in Cambridge, right outside of Boston. We checked into our hotel around 4.

Then we set off to go see Harvard University.

Along the way we stopped for some food at Legal Seafood. If you ever visit Cambridge you MUST visit Legal Seafood. The food is incredible! Lily, Jonah, and I had some fried shrimp (because shrimp is my favorite seafood) with French fries. Mommy got crab cakes. Daddy got clam chowder soup and three oysters from different water places.

On our way to Harvard we stopped at a bookstore, Rodney’s bookstore, that my siblings and I just snuck around in! 🀫

We did not get to Harvard until a bit later. We were having trouble finding it. But when we arrived we walked around, and oh my gosh was it amazing! You could see the dorms and the different buildings of the university. It was a great experience.

I got a Harvard shirt from a store near by.

After Harvard we stopped for ice cream 🍦 at Lizzie’s Ice-cream. Yummy! Then we got tickets and took the train on back to out hotel!
